REVIEW ARTICLE Introduction to time and frequency metrology

چکیده

In this article, I will review the definition of time and time interval, and I will describe some of the devices that are used to realize these definitions. I will then introduce the principles of time and frequency metrology, including a discussion of some of the types of measurement hardware in common use and the statistical machinery that is used to analyze these data. I will also introduce various techniques of distributing time and frequency information, with special emphasis on the global positioning system satellites. I will then discuss the advantages of clock ensembles and a prototype time-scale algorithm. I will conclude with a discussion of how clocks are synchronized to remote servers using noisy and poorly characterized transmission channels. @S0034-6748~99!00106-9# REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTS VOLUME 70, NUMBER 6 JUNE 1999

Analysis of Frequency Leakage in Different Optical Paths of Nano-Metrology Systems Based on Frequency-Path Models

The drawing of frequency-path (F-P) models of optical beams is an approach for nonlinearity analysis in nano-metrology systems and sensors based on the laser interferometers. In this paper, the frequency-path models of four nano-metrology laser interferometry systems are designed, analyzed and simulated, including ...

Optical Frequency Combs: From Frequency Metrology to Optical Phase Control

The merging of continuous wave laser-based precision optical-frequency metrology with mode-locked ultrafast lasers has led to precision control of the visible and near-infrared frequency spectrum produced by mode-locked lasers. Such a phase-controlled mode-locked laser forms the foundation of a “femtosecond optical-frequency comb generator” with a regular comb of sharp lines with well-defined f...

Precision measurement and frequency metrology with ultracold atoms

Precision measurement and frequency metrology have pushed many scientific and technological frontiers in the field of atomic, molecular and optical physics. In this article, we provide a brief review on the recent development of optical atomic clocks, with an emphasis placed on the important inter-dependence between measurement precision and systematic effects. After presenting a general discus...

Highly sensitive frequency metrology for optical anisotropy measurements.

In this paper we present a novel apparatus aimed at measuring very small birefringences and anisotropies and based on frequency metrology and not on polarimetry as usual. In our experiment, a very high finesse resonant cavity is used to convert the phase difference into a resonance frequency difference, which can then be measured with very high accuracy. We describe the setup and present the re...

XVII IMEKO World Congress Metrology in the 3rd Millennium June 22-27, Dubrovnik, Croatia MEASUREMENT OF FREQUENCY AND TIME - ERRORS DUE TO SYNCHRONIZATION EFFECTS AND ERROR CORRECTION

After an introduction to the mathematical theory of rheolinear systems the application of the results leads to the fact that due to the synchronization there arises a frequency deviation even outside of the synchronization range. The errors caused by this effect were investigated and consequences for highprecision frequency or time measurement and methods of error-correcting are obtained .
